Photo or source?

When I upload an image, the computer asks if it is a photo or a source. Why does it ask this?  Does this make a difference in the way the computer processes the image?

It doesn't make any difference in processing, but if it is to be marked as a photo then it should include an image of the person whose profile it is attached to.  If the person's image is not shown, then it's just a source (even if it's a photo).

Thanks for the quick answer, Kathie.

Kathie is I think correct that it makes no difference in processing: see

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Image_Types

But perhaps it should. In general, might it make sense if photos including the person were available to be the primary image, but source images were not, at least by default?

Thank you for the answers, Jim and Kathie. If I  understand this correctly, the computer sorts images as photos or sources for the convenience of the reader. I'm not sure this is a very helpful distinction. Some images can be both photo and source: passports, newspaper clippings. Some images are neither: portraits which are paintings or sculptures; photos of places or things associated with a person. I do not plan to worry too much about the distinction.
