Naming Practices in Genealogy

Just saw an excellent YouTube video that was put up about a month ago.  It was done by the Allen Public Library and is entitled Naming Practices in Genealogy.  It covers a wide variety of cultures and I found it to be absolutely fascinating. Highly recommend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncpjXUGYrcY

Adding. Here's a link to all the videos done by the Allen Public Library Genealogy Center: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8AE558B5D8661B31

Naming patterns can be so helpful. I have found that my father's side (Sicilian) strictly stuck to the naming patterns. It makes it easy for me to guess the parents until I can find a marriage record or something to confirm. It also means that all the first cousins have the same names! I'm the first one given a unique name; according to the pattern I should have been named Angela. My mother is such a rebel!
