In search of help finding the parents of Idalene Carpenter

My great grandmother was Idalene Carpenter, and I can’t find any records that she even existed.  I have a piece of paper that was in my grandfather’s things that had her name and said she was born in Russellville, Alabama.  My great grandfather’s name was Thomas Anderson Hand b.1881. I’m not sure if they were married as I can’t find any records.  My grandfather was Jessie Hand b.1904 and his brother was Ernest Lee b. 1906.  Both were Idalene’s children.  Based on my dna matches, I believe Idalene’s parents were Carpenter and Seay.  If anyone has any information I’d greatly appreciate it.

April, where were Jesse and Ernest born?

I think I found Jesse and Ernest in the 1910 census. THey were born in Mississippi of Alabama-born parents; in 1910, they were enumerated in Grubb Springs, Mississippi as nephews of Alabama-born James and Minnie Marana.  This suggests that one of their parents was a sibling to either James or Minnie.  I realize this is not a direct answer to your question, but clues for looking further.

There were no Carpenters in Russellville, Alabama enumerated in either 1880 or 1900 censuses.

In 1920, Jesse and Ernest are living in Arkansas with their father and a wife Anna who is too young to be their mother. In this census, Thomas is enumerated as born Mississippi (not Alabama). But Jesse and Ernest's mother is still identified as born in Alabama.

Thank you for your reply.  Thomas was Minnie’s brother.  I had found this information earlier and I assumed Idalene must have died shortly after Ernie was born, but as I said I can’t find any information on her at all.  It’s very frustrating.
The information I have is that they were born in Mississippi and that both Thomas and Idalene were born in Alabama.
Yes, Annie Maroney was his step mother.  I had originally thought she was my great grandmother because my father said she was his grandmother but I started researching my tree and found the age discrepancy.  Then a few months later we found the paper in my grandparents old things that said Jessie’s mom was Idalene Carpenter.

I think your theory that Ida Carpenter died shortly after (or even as a result of) Ernest's birth is quite possible. Would explain why the babies were enumerated with their aunt initially until Thomas remarried.

Unfortunately, the *state* of Mississippi didn't record deaths until 1912.  From 1879-1912, it was done at the country level. So you *could* try to contact the health department or vital records office in the county she likely died in and see if they have a death record for her under either Ida Hand or Ida Carpenter.

I checked for an Ada, as the two, Ida and Ada are often mixed up.  found a Thomas A hand and a Ady C
Capenter living just a few doors from one another on 1900 census. Thomas A hand living with brother John and Ady was a servant in household of Andrew Wilson. Living in Mountain Springs, AL , not far from Russelville, AL. Could be a lead.

I got excited for this one, but the dates aren’t quite right.  My grandfather was born in 1904 and my great grandfather was born in 1881 so I’m guessing Idalene was born in the 1880’s sometime.  Thank you for looking though!
