"Creating the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland" online talk

Further to George Fulton's G2G post back in January, here is a free online talk from the British Library about the scope of the project and how it will be achieved:

Creating the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland

14 July 2022, 1900h BST, free tickets via the link above.

If it is a version of the talk presented to the Irish Genealogical Research Society recently, it is a marvellous explanation of how the seemly impenetrable Records Office was so thoroughly destroyed and how the lost records are being reassembled from other sources.

The new site for Irish Records is now live: https://virtualtreasury.ie/

Apparently quite slow.

I haven't found it too slow, but there are clearly load issues.  Sometimes you search and get no results, when the same search produced 82 results last time.  Also when you go to next page it can lose all your results and have to start again with the search.

I've found that its best to set returned results to 100 per page and then click open in new tab so you don't lose all your returned results.

There are also occasional matches against wrong documents.  All of this is indicative of a load issue (when using a caching API layer).  I'm sure they will sort it out in time.

I have created a first draft freespace page on the Treasury [[Space:Beyond_2022_-_Ireland%27s_Virtual_Record_Treasury|Beyond 2022 - Ireland's Virtual Record Treasury]]. There are some obvious gaps, notably on the 'Gold Seams'. I plan to improve it as I work through the site and get to understand it better.

I would be very grateful for others' comments.
