My great-uncle Petrus Lodewikus Grotenhuis, Grotenhuis-33, died as Peter Louis Grotenhuis in nov 1967 in Clay County, Florida. Source in profile. Can someone with better local knowledge/access help me get the details straight?

I've started a profile on FS: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/vitals/GXXC-WXK

It looks like he was in New York until at least 1952...

In 1950 he was living in a rooming house in Brooklyn and working as a porter in an office building:

A change of occupation. Earlier he worked as a confectioner on passenger ships. Unconfirmed oral history has him as jumping ship. This is really additional. Thank you (but I can't access the ancestry link).

The 1950 census for New York isn't indexed on FamilySearch yet... but if you try this link

https://1950census.archives.gov/search/?state=NY&county=Kings&ed=24-501#.YqmxjmFVdUg.mailto

and search on 'Grotenhuls' (indexing error) you should find the page.

I could not find him in the 1930 or 1940 U.S. censuses, but perhaps he was missed if he was working on ships.

Thank you. A perfect example of the importance of local knowledge. Wouldn't have found it on my own.

I grew up in Clay County. What detail do you need?
by Garry Blood G2G4 (4.3k points)
At this moment I have no more than the month of his death. A date would complete the basic profile. A living place or burial place is of secondary interest. No newspaper interest expected.
Ahh, I thought you meant geographic or placename knowledge (always confusing in Clay to outsiders). I do no modern research in the US so I wouldn't even know where to start. Sorry.
Thank you for your involvement.
