ADMIN HELP REQUEST

The profiles of Griffith-7 and Griffith-1288 are incorrect in link as well as the link from Griffith-1288 to Griffith-682.

There is absolutely no information to corroborate the links.  In fact Griffith-682 is recorded in history as having NO MALE HEIR.  The profile managers have no cited sources for these clams, other than other unfounded trees on ancestry, family search, etc.  If you take a look in the change files each of these profiles has been corrected multiple times.  Sometimes with communication prior, some without.  Shortly after the profiles are corrected someone restores the profiles or changes them back to being incorrect, however, the change logs for some reason do not show this.

This problem has wasted a lot of time for a lot of people.  I myself have wasted countless hours trying to find sources for a link that has never been slightly substantiated.  This link has also gone rabid on the internet to the point where there is much more incorrect information than correct.

Before someone asks if I have contacted the managers of said profiles, the answer is yes.  I got no response the same as others who have made the effort.

Now, I am new to WIKI TREE.  While I am understandably frustrated by this, I have waited a few days before bringing this to the community, as I am excited about the move here and look forward to being part of a community of passionate experts in genealogy.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this and stop it from coming back?  I’m not sure if it is the managers of the profiles or someone else who continues to propagate this or if the lie is so big at this point it's always someone new making the wrongful change.  I honestly don't know.  I do know it needs to stop.  Both of Griffith-7 and Griffith-1288 were settlers in MD in the late 1600s and it's a shame most of their descendants active on genealogy sites have the wrong branch to the Griffith tree.  What's worse is that now very few even bother to research who their true lineage was.

Please let me know if you have any comments, suggestions or can help in any way.

Thank You

Here is a related post that has also been Un-corrected since.

After reviewing the profiles in question, I note there are comments as to the parents being incorrect and discussion about detaching them.  The PMs haven't been active for quite some time.  I have added the U.S. Southern Colonies Project as a profile manager, added PPP, and detached the parents with a note in the biography.

Anyone with reliable sources and information regarding these profiles is requested to add the information and sources to the profiles.  Note that for pre-1700 profiles, reliable sources are required.  Thanks.

Thank you Darlene.  I really appreciate you're help in this matter.  If there is anything I could do to assist please let me know.  I am still learning the Wiki formatting, but it id love to help out if it would be useful in this project.  Thanks again
We are always looking for people that know the value of good sources and are willing to research to add information to profiles.  Wikitree has a lot of wonderful, solid genealogists that love to both collaborate and corroborate.

Matthew, the profiles and connections need to be ‘cleaned up’ yet again to only the documented info and connections and then project protected by an appropriate project. Perhaps it would be Maryland for the profile linked above so I have edited the tags to include Maryland. Once protected at least the connections cannot be altered except by a Leader.

Thank you

The U.S. Southern Colonies Project could also assist, since the person was in Maryland prior to 1776.  The Maryland Project doesn't presently have a leader (and is a sub-project of the United States Project), so perhaps the USSC project should be added as a PM to the profile(s).

You have to be a Wikitree member for 30 days and have completed the pre-1700 quiz to join the U.S. Southern Colonies Project.  That, however, doesn't keep the USSC from becoming a PM.  We would need the information and reliable sources to change the information on the profiles.  Feel free to contact me privately or post on G2G with the information, being sure to tag the post with Southern_Colonies.

Thanks, Darlene. I keep forgetting USSC covers colonial Maryland.

I suggest in addition that you begin the process of removing the current managers from the profiles so that you can adopt them. On the profile/profiles in question go to the tab labeled Family Tree and Tools. From there scroll to the bottom of the page to Unresponsive Profile Manager Request Form.  When you go to this page it will tell you the three things you need to do to have someone removed as a manager, before you can actually make the request.  If you don't understand something, I can help.

Thank you so much!

I have submitted the form for [[Griffith-7|William Griffith I (abt.1657-abt.1699)]].  Do you have a project suggestion to find the real parents from Great Brittan (Wales or England)?  This has been my "Great Wall of China" so to speak.  I have spent more time on this one person than probably all the others combined and I just cannot find a definitive answer as to who this person actually was.  I have numerous candidates ranging in birth by over 40 years.  A distant cousin has actually written a research paper on this individual and I've sent him enough information to double his existing 20 or so pages.
Try Southern Colonies or Maryland Projects

Matthew, if he was from Wales or England, there are Wikitree projects for both of those countries.  You could post on G2G and tag the post with those countries, which will bring the post to the attention of the project members.

Thank you all.  I have added England and Wales as tags to the post.
