Seeking verification of my 2x g-grandfather David McArthur parents

Question

I cannot find anything to verify my 2x g-grandfather, David McArthur's parents. David was born 1824 and died 1902 in North Carolina. Probably Rutherford County NC. His father was possibly John McArthur 1791-1826. John lived in Rutherford County, NC. Or could be John McCarter 1782-1840 and lived in York, South Carolina. David's mother was Susanna Roberts 1794-1856. Thank you for any clues.
