After 233 years of being silenced, Charles Asgill has now been given a voice

Twenty years of research has gone into correcting history, after Charles Asgill's voice was silenced in 1782.  Helen Tovey, the Editor of Family Tree, gave me the opportunity I had longed for. I am hugely indebted to Helen, who interviewed me on 7 March 2022.  You can watch here: https://www.family-tree.co.uk/how-to-guides/charles-asgill-setting-the-record-straight

Well worth listening.

I knew nothing of this affair but found your description and analysis of its  subsequent interpretation fascinating. A reminder that 'officially'  recorded history may be redacted and  filtered through a lens.

One name that stood out was James Gordon who died in Manhatten.  I couldn't find him on wikitree. If he's not here, he certainly should be.

Thank you for your lovely comment, Helen.  The James Gordon's page I created for him on Wikipedia is here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Gordon_(British_Army_officer,_died_1783) should you, or anyone else, wish to create a page for him here. I am just waiting for his memorial in NYC to be replaced with one showing his correct dates of birth and death, since these were incorrectly recorded on the stanchion they erected for him on 8 March 2022.
It's disappointing that only one person has responded. Changing history is a difficult thing to do, but when it happens, the news needs to get out there.  So, people, come to my aid.
Hi Anne,

First I have heard of this as well.

I look at G2G nightly, and never came across the posts you have made concerning this.  I posted today and the word voice led me to your post.

Often, I would have read it and not responded, but your work needs to be highlighted, and commended.  Thanks for your work!
Thank you, Rick. I appreciate your comments.  I am really sad that this video has basically been ignored here, apart from two people!
