Can anyone help break this wall down

James Carr is my brick wall for this side of the family.

All I know is he was born before 1820 as dates range from 1804 - 1820 birth location unknown but have seen Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania depending on the descendant.

I have his Census records from 1840 - 1870 all in Fayette county, Pennsylvania. After the 1870 census he is no longer found with the family so I have his death as after 3 Jun 1870 and / or before 9 jun 1880. He was a coal miner and married Eliza Ann Hamilton according to all of his children's death certificates I could find. Eliza is named Elizabeth on at least one Death certificate, she lived from 1819 until after 1900 but before 1906.

Any help with identifying his death date and parents is needed.

His records can be found under his sons profiles,

Thanks in advance and let me know if anything is needed.

Every census record he appears on shows his birth location as Pennsylvania, so that seems most likely. Looking at census records for Fayette County, there are several Carrs in 1830 (three Johns, James, Samuel, Nathan, George, Absalom). There are Carrs in the area going back to the 1800 census (also under the variant spelling "Kerr", which is Scottish). Given the prevalence of the surname in the area it seems likely that James Carr belongs to one of the Carr families of Fayette County, most of whom seem to be descended from John Carr, who was born c. 1708, possibly in Ireland. John Carr's profile has DNA links for several descendants, and I see you're on GEDmatch, so it may be worth investigating whether there's a link.

Thanks for the John Carr link I searched WT and never found it.  This John is to far back to be his father but at least I can research down from him as I have a book written late 19th century concerning the Carr family. Did some DNA matching and yes although a bit small 3.1 - 4.7cM with those on the list.

Thanks again hopefully I can get this figured out
