Samuel 'Sam' Forsyth was a young New Zealander who enlisted in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force as an Engineer and saw action at Gallipoli and on the Western Front. He met, courted and married whilst in Scotland in 1917, however, was killed in action in France in August 1918 in an event in which he became a (posthumous) recipient of the Victoria Cross for gallantry. His young widow-bride was presented the Cross at Buckingham Place by King George V. Sam's medals were inherited by a nephew (Sam and Mary did not have a child) and sold in 1982 and placed on display in the Imperial War Museum in 1992. Lest We Forget.
