"And the winner is....."  well, we won't know the 2022 Academy Award winners until next Sunday evening, March 27th, so to build the anticipation the US Black Heritage Project is shining our spotlight on African-Americans who have already taken home a treasured Oscar statuette.  Most are famous actors and actresses, past and present, so we invite you to check out a winner, Geoffrey S. Fletcher, who may not be as well-known.  Geoffrey is a screenwriter who became the first African-American to receive an Academy Award for writing, when he won his award in 2010 for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film "Precious".  Geoffrey was born and raised in Connecticut, but has family roots in New Orleans and Cuba.

We invite you to check out just some of the other past African-American Oscar winners, from most recent to oldest:

All WikiTreers are invited to help improve these Notable profiles and expand their family. Some are still unconnected.  If you add a family member that is African-American, please add the {{African-American Sticker}} right below the ==Biography== line. If you add photos, please make sure there are no copyright restrictions on any you upload.
