Unknown profiles

Question

I'm curious what is recommended for profiles like these: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-448996.

This is the assumed wife of [[Smitherman-50|William Smitherman]]. We only know she existed because William had a bunch of children. We don't her first or last name and we don't even know if the same woman had all of these children. Could be multiple women. It's just a very big unknown and has been for decades.

I like to be hopeful that one day we'll find sources that prove who this woman is, but it won't be anytime soon. So for now, there is nothing to do but leave the profile unsourced.

What is recommended to do for profiles like these? Just leave it as is? Is it better to have the profile deleted (if there's even a process for that)?

It says that the children were born in carolina so one might look to see if she is mentioned there, in the meantime Ancestry posts this that would need to be verified,

by following the children, their death registries or histories may give their mother's name?

thanks for your comment. I have seen a lot of that and sadly most of that is incorrect or can't be confirmed at this point. Anna Gracey Latham gets listed often, but this is likely not true. There is a marriage record for William Smitherman and Gracey Latham, but by the time they were married they would have only had William's Youngest daughter.
