Primary source for birth of Maj Gen Orlando Bolivar Willcox

I'm a rather distant cousin of Orlando Bolivar Willcox, after whom Willcox AZ is named. His father, Charles, is in WikiTree (Wilcox-6040) but not his mother.

His birth date in Detroit is well established, and virtually all sites (Ancestry, FamilySearch, FindAGrave at least) list his parents as Charles Wil(l)cox and Almira Rood. (Who are apparently ancestors of Vincent Price.)

(Note, we Wil(l)coxes are rather fluid in the spelling across generations, and public records often record Willcox as Wilcox. Orlando was definitely a Willcox.)

But I haven't found any contemporary record listing Orlando's parents. Obviously there must have been some record somewhere since everyone assumes it. But evidence?

Suggestions, anyone?

Update: Orlando's SAR application lists his father Charles Willcox and grandfather Capt John Willcox. It lists his mother as (Rood) Willcox, which seems odd with no first name. That lineage is consistent with what appears about everywhere Orlando is listed.

Why is he not listed on his father's profile?

Perhaps his military records can be ordered and may have that information.  I found a listing for Orlando in the Michigan Military Record collection on ancestry.com. This listed him as the son of Charles and Almira Willcox.  He is listed on page 224 and 225.

The profile for Charles Wilcox was added by someone else with at best secondary sources (Find A Grave, famouskin.com, and a mention of a Genealogical Society database), with parents, no wife, one son (though "common knowledge" shows Charles and Almira Rood having multiple children). I think someone was trying to establish a link with a famous person. (A site shows Charles is an ancestor of Vincent Price.)

I'm tempted to add Orlando with the few sources I have, and at least of the "common knowledge" items flagged as "needs source."

Jeffrey - Thanks, this helps. It validates what is apparently "common knowledge." Still a secondary source, but better than Find A Grave, etc, which I'd consider tertiary sources.

I bow to your superior searching ability. :)

Good luck
