What you entered:

Ancestry.com. Ohio. Division of Vital Statistics. Death Certificates
and index, December 20, 1908-December 31, 1953. State Archives Series
3094. Ohio Historical Society, Ohio.Ohio

{{Ancestry Record|9398|4774967|}}

Ooooh, so close! You have the incorrect dbid for the Ancestry Record template and too many pipes. It should be:

{{Ancestry Record|5763|4774967}}

As for formatting of the citation itself. I like to give Ancestry credit, but not top billing, so to speak. Just to be clear, this is MY formatting, not the official WikiTree formatting, but I think it works. I use the original data, some Ancestry information, then the source citation information provided by Ancestry. I also add the sharing link for those who do not have an Ancestry subscription:

  • Ohio. Division of Vital Statistics. Death Certificates and Index, December 20, 1908-December 31, 1953. State Archives Series 3094. Ohio Historical Society, Ohio; database and digital images, ''Ancestry.com Operations, Inc.'' (https://www.ancestry.com : accessed 7 March 2022); citing Ohio Department of Health; Columbus, Ohio; Ohio Deaths, 1908-1932, 1938-1944, and 1958-2007.

* {{Ancestry Record|5763|4774967}}

* {{Ancestry Sharing|27653901|e9715f}}

Using the Sourcer app from an ancestry or family search  (and some other websites) page, it will create the citation, including a shared image link, if it is available, as well as the Ancestry Record link.  All that is needed is to click the [1] for the app and it creates it so you can paste it into the profile.

It also does a nice job of searching on many sites (with more being worked on).

Lucy, Your comment is very helpful to me as well- I had no idea what a "pipe" was, but I see now from your explanation. Oh! I feel same as you about giving top billing to whichever entry point is closest to the original document.

Many of the documents from the subscription area of the site cannot be copied. I added many sources to my Ancestry Tree when using a trial membership. After the trial period expired, so did visible access to these sources.

   You may want to try using free access site as an alternate way to show sources.

Citation from free sources are better but try out the Sourcer browser extension for creating citations for Ancestry that anyone can use without being an Ancestry member.

You can find out more on the Apps page under the Find drop down menu.
