Finding third great grandparents

Hello! I am currently on several different DNA websites. I am having the hardest time trying to verify somethings. I know some information by word of mouth but I can't verify any of it. Back in the 1800's and farther back there were so many families with the names John, William, Mary, etc. Each one has different birth years, birth locations etc. Some people didn't have birth certificates. I am totally lost and been stuck for over a year. Can someone give me some advice?

Get some practice with online research tools by using them to find records to fill in details for people you knew. For example, try searching FamilySearch.org for Beulah Cooprider (unusual names like that are often easier to research). She should be findable in the 1920 and 1930 U.S. Censuses.

Hint: In searching, ignore the option of entering a single date in the date box. Instead, go to the other options and choose "Birth" and enter a range of dates, such as 1917 to 1921.

Start with what you know for sure and go with location, working back watch for census records.
Thank you. I know for a facts for Bobby Foster (my father), his parents Dolf Foster and Beulah Cooprider, Dolfs parents, Sarah (Maude) Alford and Levi Foster. I know Levi's father is William/Asbury Foster. I am thinking Sarah Hayes is his wife that is related to me. He was married three times I think. But, after that I can not verify for sure. I have even tried FindaGrave.
I have done this. This is why it is hard.
Are you using   familysearch.org
Yes. I am on just about all the sites
