Which Children's Author are you most closely connected to?

March 2 is Dr. Seuss Day, so we're featuring him in the Connection Finder this week.

Featured alongside him are other children's authors:

Which one is most closely connected to you? If you're one of the 25.2 million of us who are connected to each other on our big tree you can check with the Connection Finder.

You can check for shared ancestors with the Relationship Finder. Are you a cousin to any of them? Your Relationship Finder Quick Links page (see your profile pull-down menu under "Relationships") has quick links for several notable groups.

Special feature: Check out how you're connected to other notables by using the green MyConnections button in the upper right hand corner of the category page. Browse related categories like children's authors and writers.

Let us know how you're related below! If you want to share your connection on social media with cousins and friends, click the "get shareable image" below the results, e.g. EB White and TH White. Then just upload it along with the URL of your direct connection. (Please refrain from sharing your connection on the featured profiles themselves, though. It clutters conversations on research and collaboration. Thanks!)

Help us with next week's feature: Women Leaders. Help us choose and improve profiles for it.

No Eric Carle Jr.? https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Carle-1086 Author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

No Tomie dePaola? https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/DePaola-36 Author of 260 children's books including Strega Nona.
As much loved as those authors are, both have biographies in need of help. Eric's is all copy and paste and Tomie's has very little. If you'd like to see them featured in the future, now would be a great time to jump in and lend a hand in improving them, though!
Eric's WAS mostly copy and paste, but Nelda (Gilchrist) Spires made considerable alterations back on the 23rd February.  He was good to go from that point.
Ah, thanks, Melanie. She made it sound like she wouldn't have time in the thread, so I didn't check back again. I'll make sure he's on future lists. We're fans here, so it would have been fun to see him. That said, using the category, anyone can see their connection to him (and I am currently working on making sure all nominees are categorized under children's authors so that's possible).
In the planning thread I said I didn't think I could do the bio, so Nelda gave it a go instead (a good job, too).
I did go through my books and found an old copy of Hungry Caterpillar (I collect books, even children's books) that I could photograph (even if I called it a scan), crop, and upload.
As a former Library Media Specialist Teacher, K-5, this tugs at my heartstrings. There are so many incredibly talented Children's Authors/Illustrators. There are dozens of sites that focus on them, but the awards that they have received tells a lot about them; the prestigious Newbery Awards, Caldecott Awards, the formerly known Laura Ingall Wilder Awards which are now referred to as the "Children's Literature Legacy Awards".

Each of these children's authors/illustrators have their own pages with links included that give you all the information you need.

I'm only 29 degrees from Sara Payson Willis/Fanny Fern, which I hadn't heard of. It's rare enough for me to be less than 30 degrees from anyone featured, so I'll look into her!

I found her to be fascinating.  She has a notable brother, as well, and one of her husbands, and her granddaughter (who could have been nominated for this feature if she had a profile (it's in my plans, but rabbits . . . ).
She's the only one I have an actual connection to (14th cousins 7x removed) and I also have not heard of her. I love learning all these interesting tidbits.

No Connection you say? I fear you are wrong.
Doc Seuss is 19 steps from you, Don.
(Which handily beats my own 23,
Perhaps I need to find a new tree!)
Well done, Melanie Paul!

I am a directly related to children's author Carolyn Burns Bass, author of ALL ABOUT THE BRONTE SISTERS, a children's illustrated biography of Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte. How am I related? It's me! I am the author. LOL.

How cool to see children's authors listed--absolutely delighted with your list, but would love to see several other authors listed, such as:

C.S. Lewis
Madeleine L'Engle
Beatrix Potter
Lewis Carroll
Roald Dahl
Louisa May Alcott

How fun!

There's only room for 10 supporting profiles each week.  We did have Children's Authors featured in March 2021.

In order to be considered for inclusion in the theme of the week, a profile should have a reasonable biography (not something copied and pasted from elsewhere), a profile picture (portrait of some kind, not an object, or place), and MUST be Connected to the main Tree.

If you'd like to see different people, feel free to join in the nomination process when the theme is something that interests you. smiley
Abby usually announces the theme for the upcoming week in the post announcing the current week's list of names (for example, next week's feature is to be Women Leaders — well, unless some breaking news pushes that theme aside for now).  Plus there's always the "forward planning" thread, where themes for upcoming months can be suggested.
