Hi Minnie and Welcome,

Try this link  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:How_to_Use_WikiTree

Try adding your parents, it is pretty easy to do that and you will find links on your own profile to link parents, siblings, spouse, children.

And then explore wikitree by using the menus on the top right. Look for profiles with your surname (look on the find menu).  Use the Help menu for questions.

And, like Michael said, come back to G2G with specific questions and someone will come along who can help you.

Minnie, I would like to suggest that you go to your profile or your navigation page and click on the "Upgrade" link (completely free), answer a few questions and be sure to save. You will then receive a message from a Greeter with the "How-to" link for Family Members. This link contains a lot of very helpful information for getting started on WikiTree. If you work through those steps, you will be on your way to using and understanding the basics of WikiTree.

I hope you will do that and give it a bit longer as I think you will enjoy the journey!

Hi Minnie, welcome to WT. I will admit, WT does have a learning curve, but once you do a few profiles it does become easier. There are videos on youtube you can watch, and please make sure you look at the items under the Help tab! Should you need a little help. please feel free to ask here on the G2G Forum, there are a lot of people here who can help you out. Jump in, get your toes wet, try a few profiles, and I bet you are up and running in no time! Most of all, take your time, and enjoy!

Hi Minnie - if you're asking about adding parents, then I think help pages are there as Michael and Kristina note - and we're all here to help as well!

But I see that you flagged your question with "Autosomal" - so if that's what you're asking about, here's a short summary:

"Autosomal" means that it's one of the 22 pairs of chromosomes encoding the bulk of the DNA of all human beings (one version of each pair from each parent).

They're distinguished from the last (23rd) pair which is called "allosomal" and generally determines sex at birth - essentially based on which version of the father's sperm (X or Y) made it the "goal-post" first. So if it was an X, then the child's allosomal pair would be X from the father, and X from the mother - and XX babies are generally biological females at birth. If it was the Y version, it would be X from the mother and Y from father - and XY babies are generally biological boys at birth.

This is also why some of the DNA evidence that we often see is referred to as Y-DNA (which sons inherit from their fathers) - or mitochondrial DNA (mt-DNA) which is actually separate - and both boys and girls inherit this only from their mothers. So, Y-DNA is then generally useful for following paternal lines, and mt-DNA for maternal.

Hope that helps!
