Arnoldus VanderHorst was my great, great, great grandfather and I have recently discovered that my great, great grandmother was the product of VanderHorst and one of his slaves.  I'd like to know more about Eliza, why she went to Canada and the man she married (Miller)

The South Carolina Historical Society apparently has in its manuscript collection of Vanderhorst family papers a collection entitled Hagar Richardson Estate Papers, 1816-1828:

It says the papers relate to, among other matters, the education and the maintenance of her children Eliza and Peter Vanderhorst.

It calls Eliza "Eliza Vanderhorst Parker."

It does not seem to be available on-line, but it might have some interesting information on Eliza.

Also, if you haven't seen it, here is a really interesting article that talks about her brother Peter:

After finally finding proof for my HAGAR line - with the name and spelling of the ancestor you are looking for I would try the HAGER German line. Unfortunately everyone seems to want to believe all immigrants came from the United Kingdom countries. Not true! Although both of the Hagar/Hager lines original immigrant's names were William the Hagar's came from England with Gov. Winthrop's group in 1630 and the Hager immigrant came from Germany in 1750 and settled in North Carolina - mostly in Lincoln.
