How to handle several Trees related to a place and Black_Heritage?

I've been working with others locally on some research of a part of Little Rock that was red-lined in the 1950s. Part of this research has included genealogy of the families that lived there (many scattered all over the city and country).
I would like to share these people profiles and their trees on WikiTree. I was wondering the best way to do it so that I might get some collaboration from my fellow researchers as well as descendant, genealogists, and historians contributing to WikiTree.
Should this be individuals trees linked to a free-space:page for the area (West Rock)? Could it be made into an actual project later?

Morning, Frances.

Please check out these pages:

You can also contact Emma or Elaine, managers on the second url if you need more specific help.

This is a great answer but so is Elaine's.

I can use both methods as one of my ancestors enslaved a lot (and I mean a LOT) of people, for which I have a document listing their names. I've been wondering for years what to do with it that would be helpful.
With regard to the Little Rock community that was wiped off the face of the map and forgotten until now, I think Elaine indicates a free-space:page for the community with people associated might work.

The significance of the community is directly related to a current day historic district.. One that excluded mention of it, probably because no one knew about or remembered the removed sections of the district.

Hi Frances - this sounds great! A space page will work, and I'll send you a message this evening. Thank you!

This is fantastic!  In addition to the answers above, I would recommend a "category" for individuals that were part of that community, and that the same category be applied to the space page as well.  That way they can all be viewed at once, and people can hit the "My Connections" button on the category screen to investigate if they are related.

I have submitted a request for a new category "West Rock Community".

As an aside, I have also reached out to the Genealogy and Local History Specialist at Central Arkansas Libraries (CALS) to let her know what I've embarked on -- ask for her and others to consider getting involved in this West Rock profile and people profiles.

Frances, thank you for working on this! The US Black Heritage Project would be happy to assist you in getting these profiles added to WikiTree. I see Elaine has posted here and she is an awesome resource for helping to get these kinds of projects organized. Let us know how else we can help you.

I definitely need help. I might be abusing G2G with my questions (indicated by --)

- I agree with another of you that this sounds like a One_Place_Study (for West Rock). Can we/should we create one? It no longer exists. It is an historial community that existed across several sections, twn 2 north, range 12 west 1870 - 1950s. One of the churches assoc still exists in LR today.
-  I would like these ancestors' profiles (falling under Black_Heritage) to connect to their community and place (West Rock).
Note - we in Pulaski County AR have other historical black communities, some of them associated with these people, too. (Pyeatt, Marche, Maumelle/Natural Steps). These communities and their history are significant also but can wait.)
-- How should I upload or hand over the file with these people's profiles? GEDCOM?

-- How do I ensure they stay on watch list without having to continue managing them? They are not my relatives; I want others to take over who may have stronger connection.
Hi Frances,

My father was born in Woodson, Arkansas and I would be happy to help create the profiles for these folks. You can send me a GEDCOM file to jarrettdh at aol.com and I will help create the profiles. Who knows, I may find some relatives in some of these communities! :-)
Frances, how many people do you have in your file? the number can make a difference in how best to process the information.
Total persons: 594

Marriages: 189

I considered breaking them up into smaller GEDCOM files b/c total number of person profiles are represented in several different trees. There are marriages between many of the trees, so I realize separate GEDCOMs may result in duplicates.
GREAT. More to come. Trying to figure out and get guidance on best way to associate these profiles with their historical places (west rock, pyeatt, marche)
Hi Frances, with this many people I would recommend adding them by hand. I don't see any value in adding them as a gedcom. Doing it by hand, you could have some help with it. (multiple people can add them).

As far as associating them with the historical places, we can create categories, especially if these were historical black communities. We can decide on the best way to create the new categories.
