An old brickwall: Looking for more information on Luther Pruitt and his parents

I'm trying to find out more information about my third great grandfather Luther Pruitt and his parents. Luther Pruitt was born 28 February 1865 in Breckinridge, Kentucky. He died 29 August 1942 in Bement, Illinois. His death certificate states that his parents were George Pruitt and Susan Lucas. I found him on a census with what is possibly his mother under a different name (nickname maybe or possibly middle?) Booker Pruitt and siblings George, Susan, and Alfred. There is another census where he is living with a Susan. He has a find a grave. A lot of time I used cemeteries to help me figure people out but he moved far from family so I doubt his cemetery would help me find his parents.

Look at the family in dwelling 31 on this schedule from the 1900 U.S. Census.

www.ancestry.com is associating it with Luther Pruitt.

It's a little difficult to read,

Better yet, I found his obituary - "Luther Pruitt Dies, Ill Month," Journal Gazette (Mattoon, Illinois), August 31, 1942, p. 1.

It says that he was born on February 28, 1865, in Breckenridge County, "the son of Mr. and Mrs. George M. Pruitt."  It also lists "a brother John of Breckenridge, Ky." and "a sister, Mrs. Susan Nichols of Breckenridge, Ky."  That may help identify his parents.

The sister Susan ties nicely with your census record.

Oh wow! Thank you for this. I've been thinking of subscribing to a site like this. There's just so many. I am going to message you.
I figured it out!
Jourdi:

It should be in your email.  Let me know if it is not.
