Seeking help with Joseph ne Guiseppe Pozzi's family in Italy

Joseph Pozzi was born about 1791 in Italy where he was likely known as Giuseppi. "He was born and brought up in Italy and only left it as a refugee in company with many others during Napoleon's conquest of the peninsula, in order to escape conscription." [1] "It is thought he arrived in Elgin between 1808 and 1818 at the request of the Catholic Church to conduct work and repair on the church silver

He came from the Lake Como area.

You are in the time before Civil Registration in Italy, so you must consult the church records. I did a brief look at some town in the Como region, unfortunately I did not see any church records.

It is unlikely that Catholic Church records will be put online at FamilySearch in the foreseeable future because of theological differences between the Catholic Church and the LDS church.

You can try writing to the specific parish, if you know it. My understanding is that chance of getting a reply is slim. The larger towns will have several parishes. The civil birth records may name the parish where the child was baptized.

Another option is to look through the earliest marriage records.

If the Allegati matrimoniali are online, these files will have additional information relevant to the marriage that may add some earlier generations.

Ancestry has some information for this date and with the last name, I am not a member so don't know what else they might have.    https://www.ancestry.ca/genealogy/records/maria-pozzi-24-cc6pbn

The ancestry.com link is to a Maria Pozzi (1789-1806).  It didn't seem to have anything on Joseph Pozzi.

There is a database on ancestry.com entitled England, Alien Arrivals, 1810-1811 and 1826-1869. It lists a Joseph Pozzi, who departed from Boulogne, France and arrived in London on October 20, 1839.  It was the Ship Harlequin.  It's a little late, but interesting.
