What happened to the photos I had uploaded to my maternal grandfather's page?

I had uploaded a few photos to my maternal grandparents' page here on WiKiTree a month or so ago - and they are not on the page today? What happened? I will now check the other photos I had downloaded to my paternal grandparents' and others' pages to see if they too have gone missing. It is tedious work and time consuming, only to have them go missing. I also uploaded a marriage or death certificate to this page, as well as some remembrances. They are all gone ...

Question: can others who are on the Trusted List who have access to my tree information and who can also 'merge' the trees together, be able to delete or change my information? I hope not; because, in my grandparents case, I KNOW for sure the information and pictures I have uploaded are CORRECT.

The picture in question of the black granite headstone was taken by my parents on one of their trips to Canada in the early 1980's. My mother helped to purchase it and replace the wooden cross that was their grave marker. I have the prints here in my possession which I obtained after my mother's passing in 2003 from her effects.

Thanks for your answer to my question.

Hi Jacqueline:

Wow! You certainly answered my question quickly. I open my own page on WiKiTree, click on my mother's name, click on my grandfather's name on his page - and as stated in my question  everything I had uploaded on his page - is GONE! except for the original picture I had uploaded there in June 2014!

I must state here that I am very computer savvy and have had these issues with Ancestry in the past. Come to find out, they had a 'virus' last summer, and that was the reason for the 'glitch' on their web site. It now seems to be rectified.

I had checked and re-checked everything I had typed and the pictures, citations I had uploaded the day a month ago when I originally did the editing. I was able to visit these pages quite a few times since then, and until today, everything was still there! I know it is not anything I am doing.

Thanks for your reply - I may need to forget WiKiTree for a while; as this is quite time-consuming and tedious, and I do not need to have all my work just disappear!

There are a couple of things I will miss if this problem cannot be rectified, especially the 'relationship to me' function and the condensed family tree - very nice!

A couple of things I do not like in particular, especially the fact that confirmation of family anestors, which I know are DNA related to me, do not get approval.

Thank you once again for you help. However, it does not answer my question.

I also checked my contributions page; and yes, the pictures I uploaded of my PATERNAL grandparents are still there. However, the pictures in question that have disappeared on my MATERNAL grandparents' pages are ALSO missing from my contributions page.

I now realize that the process of 'merging' is the culprit. FYI ... I will not approve a merge unless I do the merging, especially when it involves my correct information and pictures, etc.

Thank you for your 'heads up'.

Jeannette
Mmm.. photos should remain with the merged profile. If not, I would think that is a bug.
UNLESS, when whoever was doing the merging, deselected (or left unselected) the boxes next to the photos on the "complete merge" screen...

The changes should be traceable through various activity feeds.

I do notice there's a duplicate of your maternal grandfather. Maybe that's causing confusion. http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hache-202

Thanks Chris, for your suggestion. I also noticed the two pages; and I don't know how the duplicate pages happened. When I checked the duplicate page, my pictures/citations/comments were not on that page.

Today, I received an email from a first cousin, twice removed, requesting a 'merge'; and yes, I approved the merge. That was before I found the missing information on my Grandfather's page!

Another time, I approved a merge for my great grandmother with another relative. I had more information on my page due to the infromation I had gleaned on Ancestry and 23andMe and knowing who my grandparents were! My good information went missing and were replaced by blanks.

Is there a way that I can opt out of merges for the time being? Perhaps merges should only be done by WiKiTree? Only one page per ancestor was/is one of the main reasons I like WiKiTree.

Thank you ...

Jeannette
I hate to keep 'commenting' here; but, I just re-checked the pages you cite as duplicates; and yes ... I believe that is where the problem lies! Is it possible and doable that another WiKiTree user can delete all the pictures and citations I had uploaded? If so, I definitely want to opt out of the 'merge' option. Please get back to me this.

I just checked my maternal grandparents' page - and everything there is intact. Perhaps because I have not communicated with nor merged two pages. Actually, because of your comment, I believe that is the answer to my problem.

I checked my contributions as you suggested, and all my pictures on my paternal grandparents pages are filed there - but, my maternal grandparents pictures, etc., are not.

Hi Jeannette. Merging isn't optional. Collaboration is what WikiTree is all about.

Hi Jeanette,

I went back over your contributions (from your profile, I selected Jeanette's 182 Contributions link, you could do the same from the pulldown menu My WikiTree -- Contributions). Anyways, from an image upload, here is what I'm seeing:

Feb 4 - you uploaded your picture to your profile, you uploaded a picture to Brideau-71, and another to Martin-17757

Feb 12 - you uploaded 2 documents to Martin-18703 plus a JPG image, a gravestone, and 2 photos. You then uploaded a handwritten note to Collete-8, a gravestone, and 4 photos. And the same day, one photo uploaded to Saladino-15

Feb 20 - you uploaded one photo to Martin-21513

All those are still out there and if there's a particular one you're looking for, I'm sure we can help you find it. :)

*** EDIT: I see you've already been there... done that... and the issue is that the items you're looking for don't show up on the list. My mistake...
