Can you help us improve the profile of Bodo Bertholdt -- this week's featured Collaborative Profile?

This week's profile should be a real challenge. I "double dare you" to find information. Bodo Bertholdt lived in South Africa; was an off road race car driver, and was born to Jewish German parents.

There are several articles on his sons, Gary and Bevan. These articles frequently mention Bodo. What information can be gleaned from them and used to create a bio?

Is there a South African Census? Does anyone have access and/or know where to locate it?

Bodo's parents emigrated from Germany prior to the Holocaust, they have profiles that were created from an unsourced gedcom. Can we find some proper sourcing to support the gedcom information?

He also had a sister, who may have been left behind in Germany and died in the holocaust. Anything on her would be an incredible find.

As you decide to research something or contribute something, post an answer. This will keep the discussion going and at the top of G2G feeds, and it will keep people from duplicating efforts. Comment when others post. Be sure to vote up posts also, to thank contributors for helping.

Go for it, and happy hunting.

Nice, Anne, thanks!
Excellent!

This is now featured on the home page.

I just made a few quick edits to the text to conform with style standards.
Something really interesting happened as we improved the profile of Bodo Bertholdt. Because of the similarity in names and the fact that we thought Bodo was dead, this week's profile of the week turned out to be two different people. There's the Bodo 1920-2004 who was the son of the German Jewish immigrants to South Africa. And then there's Bodo the race car driver, born 1942, and still alive and kicking.

The new profile for Bodo 1942 is  http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bertholdt-9.

This week's profile turned out to be a lot more challenging than I thought it would be. And then there was the surprise ending. Realizing that they were two Bodos.

I think that's cool, Anne.

It shows that ProW is all about the process. It's all about taking a profile and collaborating to make it better.

There is a divorce for Bodo in the South African National Archives. He was married to Henrietta HUMMEL and got divorced in 1974

That's great information, Linda.

You're now on the trusted list.  If you want to be manager, just say the word - I'll be thrilled to turn him over to you!

This profile is open as are his father's and sister's - his mother's profile is public, but I'm not the manager, so I can't help - I left a comment on it a while back.

I have not created profiles for Willy's 2 sons or his daughter-in-law or grandchildren because I don't have enough info about them to do it.

One more thing - I'm not all that sure of the source of the information about Bodo's sister.  Since I could not find her anyplace, plus the strange situation of her having been born in Germany and having been left there as a small child when her parents emigrated to South Africa makes me wonder if she ever existed at all.

The Hessen Gatermann Index (http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Germany/Gatermann.htm) may have some information on the Bertholdts. I can't check, I'm not a subscriber. But Hanau is transcribed and should be available on-line.

Apparently there was/is a South African Census, but they are not online. The old ones are no longer intact as individuals only as compiled data.
