Connecting Alexander "Alasdair Mor" MacDonald to Kinlochmoidarts

Hi! This question has been asked before, but it was four years ago and I wanted to post again to see if anyone has anything new: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/428909/alasdair-mor-and-the-kinlochmoidart-macdonalds

I've been looking for quite some time to find Alexander's parents, or grandparents - somewhere to see where he connects in to his supposed Kinlochmoidart ancestry. But I haven't been able to find anything definitive beyond what's mentioned in his profile on wikitree already except perhaps his first wife's first name is Mary.

I am a direct descendant of Alexander and Peggy, so am particularly keen to find an answer! Any help will be very much appreciated!

Hi there,

The name Alasdair Mor Mac Aonghais 'ic Alasdair to me would translate as Big Alexander son of Aeneus son of Alexander or Big Alexander son of Aeneus MacAlister. I cannot find such a connection however Angus Bogainn MacDonald, Morar apparently immigrated to Nova Scotia and died there in 1718. That was from a Geni site and isn't cited.

I am the leader of the Clan Donald DNA Project. W've in the past thought, based on several claims similar to yours, that we had a Y-DNA profile for the Kinlochmodart chieftain line. But now there are competing claims to that profile (Morar) that seem at least somewhat better. But we still have that list of Kinlochmoidart claimants. If you have a close all-male-line brother, uncle, or cousin in your line a test might possibly be of use ... but it has to be the BigY700, which is rather expensive if it genberates nothing useful, which is say a 60% probability.

Great great grandfather & grandmother. Angus Alasdair Ruadh MacDonald spouse Mary MacPherson. Great great great grandfather & grandmother Alexander Alasdair Ruadh _ The_Ridge MacDonald spouse Mary Donald Campbell. I’m not sure if this is the line you’re looking for. The line in Scotland is from lochaber Inverness shire area the line that started in Canada is from Mabou area. My father born 1899 Dougald Daniel MacDonald mother Laura Desforges.
