How should I enter Hull, Yorkshire/Humberside between 1974 and 1996

I have a number of ancestors who need (death) entries for Hull (or other places in that area) in  the period 1975-1995.  As a relatively new WikiTree-er I am keen to get this correct, so try to select a location from the drop-down list.  The problem is that Hull, Yorkshire ... exists for dates up to 1974, and Hull, Yorkshire East Riding ... exists for dates from 1996, but I cannot find anything for the intervening period (when it was in North Humberside) either under Humberside or North Humberside.

Hi Ruth,

In all honesty, the pull-down menu for locations isn't always accurate. If you know that Hull was in Humberside in that intervening period, feel free to enter it as such, regardless of what the menu says.

It's a fairly standard issue when it comes to English towns and villages which moved at various points. Sometimes the menu picks it up, sometimes it doesn't :)

It would appear from 1974 - 1996 Kingston upon Hull was in North Yorkshire and from 1996 in Humberside.

Geni UK and Ireland have taken the local government changes and simplified, if that’s possible with UK Acts of Parliament, them into a list:-

In saying this a report by City Monitor on Hull is worth reading just to “muddy the waters” and gives an account of what the Yorkshire folk feel about Hull!

Good luck.

Hull was in Humberside between 1974 and 1996: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humberside

Then Hull became a unitary authority: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingston_upon_Hull#Governance

Thanks for that Malcolm - the City Monitor article looks interesting.  As a "Yorkshire lass" (born about five miles from Kingston upon Hull, it was never in North Yorkshire - and Humberside (as a county) was abolished in 1996 (although the name lives on in the airport, police etc.).  Some of the older documents I have actually refer to "Hull-shire" as separate from the East Riding of Yorkshire.
