Hi there, I've hit a brick wall with 2 of my ancestors

Question

Hi there, I've got an issue with my great-great grandparents, Alice Maud Forsythe (Forsythe-1342) and Maurice Vincent Sherry (Sherry-594). I cannot find either of their parents with a definitive confirmation. I *think* Maurice's father is someone called Joseph Patrick Sherry, born 12 Mar 1869, and I also *think* that Alice's father is George Albert Forsythe, born 18 Oct 1880. I cannot confirm either of these results. All were born in Australia, and all in Victoria.

Hi Will. Do you have the following record? It seems to confirm that Maurice's father was Joseph Patrick Sherry, and gives his mother's name as Annie Mable May Gardener. However, there also exist birth records for siblings of Morris with the mother's name spelt in different ways: Mabel; Gardiner, Gardner.

Joseph Patrick Sherry married Annie Mable May Simmons in 1891:

So it looks as if Annie Mabel May Gardiner could already have married a man named Simmons, then been widowed.

There's a death notice for Annie, mentioning Maurice but under the name Vincent. I won't quote it in detail here but it's worth following the link.

I just stumbled across your post and have some info that may be of help. If I understand correctly Kath and Bob King are your great grandparents, Alice and Vincent Sherry your great great grandparents. Kath King is my first cousin and her mother Alice is my mother’s sister (Betty Margaret Forsythe).

The parents of Alice Sherry and Betty Carey (sisters) are George Albert Forsythe (1880-1958) and Alice Maud Mary Vincent (1878-1962) so that adds another generation to your list.
