Looking for information regarding William Warren, supposed father of Abraham Warren (b1681-d1721)

I'm searching for information on my 8th great grandfather, William Warren (b~1651 - d 1689). He married Elizabeth Crow.  His will on Ancestry dated 1689 mentions my 7th great grandfather Abraham (m Experience Stevens in 1705).  Some on Ancestry have inserted the name William as a middle name for John Warren which is false. There is no record that I can find that states John Warren's middle name. Does anyone have any information / thoughts regarding William?

Thanks

Diane

There was an Abraham Warren christening 16 Jan 1681 at Plymouth, Devon, England. His father is shown as Robert Warren.

Thank you so much Frank.  Your reply gave me pause. Up until this time I had thought Abraham had been born in Connecticut. I've gone back and double checked all of my sources and found his birth in CT was very weak.  That being said, my Abraham is listed in William Warren's probate record as his son... Hmmm....

There doesn't seem to be a lot about William other than his will.  He was a freeman in Hartford 1658 or 1665[Savage] m. Elizabeth d. of John Crow. He had two wives from his will. The first had children John, William, Thomas. The second wife had 4 children living at time of will, including Abraham.[Savage:Gen. Dict. of the First Settlers of New England]

Our profile for Abraham seems very confused.

Stiles' Families of Anc. Wethersfield says prob. s/o William. William's will 1689, his son was Abraham underage at the time, so this is a good fit.

Any mention of middle names before 1700 you can disregard since middle names were not used that early. They didn't come into favor until the 1800s when the population increased enough to need the extra designation.
