If you are in the Kaniva area, and are inclined to add to FindAGrave or Billiongraves, it looks like the cemetery hasn't been looked at there yet. Unfortunately, opposite side of Victoria to me. 6hour drive each way.

Ben, did you know you can request categories directly from the Aus Project, in addition to the Categorisation Project's own request form, that is?

Thank you Melanie. It doesn't surprise me, I just couldn't see it from the cemetery category page. It actually said on that page, to create a G2G question. Thank you for that re-direct.

I use both those links.  It seems to be much faster in getting a response than posting to g2g.  smiley

(I've just now requested a new cemetery category from the Cat Project.  (US cemetery))

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Victoria%2C_Cemeteries

At the top of the page it kind of suggests using G2G, but way down the very bottom in fine print, it has a link to Categorisation request form.

I think I might go back to the request categories directly page though, and the cemetery in our street. It's just a little cemetery, I could go through the entire cemetery myself and add everyone. Just need to add a category first.

Anyone can create a new cemetery category. Here's how you do it:

1) Add the category to the profile that you are working on. (Eg: [[Category:Kaniva Cemetery, Victoria, Australia]])

2) Save the profile. You will get a warning that the category doesn't exist. Click on Save Anyway

3) Click on the (now red) Category at the bottom of the profile page. This will bring up a new, empty, category box.

4) Use the Cemetery Category Template to create the new category. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:CategoryInfoBox_Cemetery

5) If you're unsure of what to do, view some already created categories to see what they look like.

6) Or you can request that the category be created here: https://www.wikitree.com/contact/category/

I created the category for you. It takes a little time before it auto-displays when typing it in.

BTW, the category I created was based upon the information at findagrave: https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2309227/kaniva-cemetery

If that's not the cemetery you are referring to, let me know.

It's also on billiongraves: https://billiongraves.com/cemetery/Kaniva-Cemetery/149219

Thank you. That is great to know.

It just occurred to me, in failing to find a person at both cemeteries, I've wrongly assumed that the cemetery hadn't been added. Clearly it should have told me that this person didn't have a head stone or grave marker. It goes to show how my mind is struggling at the moment.

Thank you again for letting me know how to create the category. I'll try it out.
I'd hate to ask, because you've done such a great job, but can we edit the Category title. I've looked for it, and can't see it. I've added Kaniva to the location, but it doesn't seem to apply a change to the category title. Just because the are titling them, Cemetery, Town, State. rather than Cemetery, State, Country.

I'll create it with the different title, and copy all the details over, and request the wrong title be deleted.
It's quite possible that they DO have a headstone and no one has yet photographed it or created a memorial on FindAGrave for it. I have created more than one memorial for people whose death certificates clearly state where they were buried yet FindAGrave didn't have a memorial for them. I always request a photo, and sometimes those requests get fulfilled.
You would have to request someone in the Categorization group to merge the one I created into the one you actually want (so there isn't a duplicate.) But the categories have rules about their structure, so they may not want to make that change. The standard is [[Category:Name of Cemetery, City (or County, Parish, etc.), State]]
Thank you Paul. It has been quite a learning curve, and very informative. The Australian team has taken care of it now. But, it was fantastic having the help to see how it is actually done. I'm going to go up the street now and do our local cemetery, and I'll be able to follow your help, to get it in properly.
