Isabel Weldon from "Barony of Kendal, Ireland"

Most internet family trees have Isabel Weldon (who married John Carver in Philadelphia in 1717) from the "Barony of Kendal, Ireland".  This information appears to come from Joseph Martindale's 1901 ''History of the Townships of Byberry and Moreland...'' (page 264)

However, wikipedia has the Barony of Kendal in Westmoreland, England.  There is no similarly named place listed in the Baronies of Ireland.  So was Isabelle English or Irish?  Does anyone with knowledge of the area and Irish history have any theories?

Isabelle's origins are unknown.  She first appears in Philadelphia when she marries John Carver in 1716.  Some "possible relations" include:

  • Ann Weldin who was received by Chester Monthly Meeting from Killcommon Monthly Meeting in Wicklow, Ireland a year later.
  • Elizabeth Weldon who was born in Cashel, Tipperary Ireland and emigrated with her husband Thomas Barger to Berks Co. PA about the same time (1716-1717)
  • Joseph Weldon who witnessed the will William Erwin in 1717.  William Erwin names his friend Thomas Coeburn Executor.  The Coeburn family was from Tipperary Ireland as well.
  • Ely Welding, who names an Ely (Eli) Carver in his will dated 1763, proven 1771

Would love to hear from anyone with more information or speculation on this English/Irish/Weldon/Welding mystery family.
