Newbury vital records do not show a William, son of David. There is an unnamed son born on this date, with the missing name coded as ——-. That record follows record of a William, born 1731, and I think someone misinterpreted —— to mean repetition of the name above. Looking at the record (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9BR-H9FT-2?i=278 ), you see that a repeated name is written out repeatedly and not coded as ——. I looked at both the birth and death records of Newbury and believe that this person did not exist. I appreciate comments from others.

A William Wheeler is listed as a founder of Newbury, so it is possible that there are others by that name, perhaps a different source of information might turn up something?

Wheeler was not an uncommon name, so another William is possible.  What is a reference for founders of Newbury?  I am working on the bio of David Wheeler, who is William's purported father, and maybe we can fix things in two profiles smiley
