The only Wikitreer tagged as speaking any Basque is Dr. Lanzén, a Swede who knows a little Basque. Until there are native Basque speakers using Wikitree there is no reason to use Basque on profiles, other than quoting source material.

Adding biographical material in a language you don't know at all in order to check off a box would not be improving Wikitree. While there might be a few native Basque speakers on Wikitree who haven't added a language template or category to their profile, it's safe to say there aren't many and they would almost certainly be fluent in Spanish if not French or English.

Thank you Nathan. I note at least one proud Catalan writer: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/D%27Armagnac-34

I also noticed this profile in Catalan. And his father Bernard d'Armagnac / Bernat d'Armanhac has a profile in Occitan (which seems more appropriate than Catalan for this family).

(I have a lot of Catalan ancestors, but sadly I cannot write it.)

That’s nice, but Catalan and Basque have little to do with one another other than both being found in Spain and to a lesser degree in bordering areas of France. Catalan is a Romance language and Basque is a language isolate; there’s not much overlap in their territory (largely Basque Country vs Catalonia) and even less among speakers.

I don’t mean to be too negative on the project of cataloging profiles written in various languages, so much as I don’t think it’s a helpful end in itself. It’s not helpful to have original materials in a language that users don’t understand, and as far as recruiting genealogists who are native speakers of these languages, I think WikiTree has bigger internationalization fish to try in terms of Anglo-centric UI and database structure.
