Comparing Bud Barnes ( my father still alive at 103, 8 July 2021 ) to these DNA testers and many many other descendants of Richard Barnes shows a positive connection. Bud's Big Y-700 test results prove him as a descendant of James Barnes and Keturah Shipley or a brother of James Barnes 1655-1726 of Baltimore, Maryland. I believe Richard Barnes b. 1723 is the grandson of James Barnes and Keturah Shipley. Pioneer Families of Missouri by Bryan and Rose, published in 1876 did not produce a record of birth or parents for Richard Barnes. A Soldier in the Revolutionary War (1958 Edition). Compiled by Col. Pinckney G. McElwee, Washington, D.C. did not produce any records of birth or parentage. I believe the only record of descent will be the Y-DNA test results of descendants of Richard Barnes Sr of the Forks of the Yadkin River, Boone District, Davidson County ( Old Rowan County ) North Carolina. Donald Barnes.

I found MeElwee's book to have a number of errors when I tried to cross reference his data with anything I could find on FamilySearch.  Unfortunately I wasn't very diligent with sources either when I started.  Are you familiar with the Barnes Genealogy on Facebook?
Yes, I have been working with Hugh since 2015.
