I wonder if you’d give me your thoughts on this scenario? My preferred Ann Beard was born 14 Mar 1784 in Semington, She married Thomas Bendy in 1800, only 16 but not unheard of. Had son George 1804
Thomas Bendy died in 1823, in 1824 Thomas Applegate (Tailor) of Trowbridge married Ann Bendy of Semington, both widowed, in Semington
In 1830 they were living in Trowbridge and had a child called Matilda, listed as Trowbridge residence in the Semington parish register. (that’s where her age makes her the more likely candidate)
1851 census, Ann Applegate widow est. 1791 Alms annuitant, Froxfield Matilda daughter born Trowbridge est. 1831
1861 census Ann widow est. 1788 (born Semington) annuitant at the hospital, Froxfield, previous tailors wife + Matilda daughter est. 1837 (born Trowbridge)
In the 1871 census for George Bendy, Matilda Applegate est. 1831 (born Trowbridge), is listed as a relative (she would have been his half sister). Which would mean that Ann died between 1861 & 1871
(Edited to make more presentable)
(Edited again to put tailor in the right place. Honestly this keyboard /computer has a mind of it's own!)
