I've been looking at the family of Sydney M Hankins. It started as a sourcing from the Oklahoma table, then I fell down the rabbit hole... again. Sydney's 1st husband was Benjamin F Vineyard (Vineyard-48) with whom she had 2 children, Mary in 1877 and William in 1880 (possible 2 others who died in infancy). Benjamin died about 1882 (lightning strike?) and Sydney remarried to Mr. Sutton. They had 3 children, Robert, Sarah (twins) and Willie.
I was looking to try and find Mr. Sutton. He would have died before 1900 as Sydney was again a widow on the 1900 Census.
There is, on Find A Grave, Augustus A Sutton 1863 - 1898. He is buried in Peerless Cemetery, Peerless, Hopkins County, Texas. (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/23203421)
William Vinyard married Bettie Alice Fleming in 1900 and had 4 children with her, Willie, Cora, Ora (twins) and Escar. Cora's obituary in the Fort Worth Star Telegram indicates Cora (and Ora) was born in Peerless. Probably means the other children were too. Their 1900 Census is Precinct 8, Hopkins County, which may be Peerless.
Now... I feel that it is entirely possible that Augustus A Sutton could be the here-to-fore mentioned Mr Sutton, 2nd husband of Sydney. I cannot find a marriage record. Texas is usually good about publishing those kind of records if they exist. Augustus was born in Arkansas and was in Lamar County, Texas, in 1880.
My purpose here is to ask if anyone has the time to take a look with fresh eyes and see if something comes up to verify or disprove my theory. I, of course will not change Mr Sutton to Augustus without proof, it just seems likely to me.
Thanks to Dale Gorham (Gorham-207) for his original work on Sydney's family.
And on we go...
