OK - an unlikely possibility, but this "could" be his record if he remarried to a Mathilda:

"United States Census, 1850," database with images, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MD47-QDQ : 22 December 2020), Vincent Dawson, Baltimore, Baltimore, Maryland, United States; citing family , NARA microfilm publication (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.).

The record shows wife Mathilda H. Dawson, born 1790 in Maryland, with sons Thomas, born 1829 in Maryland and William, born 1832 in Maryland.

And there's this one:

"United States Census, 1860", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M69G-HTD : 18 February 2021), Vincent Dawson, 1860.

No wife mentioned, but living in the household with William Dawson, born 1831 in Maryland, Emma Dawson, born 1836 in Maryland (appears to be William's wife?) and Georgeanna Dawson, born 1860 in Maryland, along with servant Elizabeth Bond, born 1845 in Maryland.

No references to Lewis Haile Dawson, although it's conceivable by 1850, he had moved from the house.

There is an 1840 Census record that might apply:

"United States Census, 1840," database with images, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XHR2-77L : 8 December 2020), Vincent Dawson, Baltimore, Maryland, United States; citing p. 60, NARA microfilm publication , (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.), roll ; FHL microfilm .

The record shows:

White Males: 1 - age 5-10, 2 - age 10-15, 1 - age 40-50, 1 - age 50-60

White Females: 1 - age 10-15, 1 - age 40-50, 1 - age 50-60

Not sure if that's helpful, but it's something to consider.

There's also some references to a Vincent Dawson who appears to have served during the War of 1812 time period. Might also be him - hard to say.

United States War of 1812 Index to Service Records, 1812-1815, database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q29K-945H : 8 March 2021), Vincent Dawson, 1812-1815; citing NARA microfilm publication M602 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); roll 55; FHL microfilm 882,573.

Ancestry seems to believe that he died in Timonium, Maryland - no date supplied on the Family Tree where they show this information.

That same Family Tree shows 3 children:

Ruth Ann Dawson (1825-1899)

Lewis Haile Dawson (1830-1899)

William Haile Dawson (1830-1899)

And oddly one other child that only appears like a half-sibling - Emma Dawson (1836 - ????)
Appears they imply that his wife, Elizabeth, died 1827. If that's accurate, not sure how she would have had children past this date. That would imply that Ruth Ann Dawson would have been Elizabeth's child. Perhaps he remarried between 1827-1829? That could be where Mathilda comes from? Pure speculation, but stranger things have happened. And Lewis does sound slightly like Thomas, so perhaps the Census taker in 1850 mistook Lewis for Thomas? Hard to say...
Scott I have been working on this family for a year and I can't figure it out
My Heritage appears to have several potential matches with related parents, but it's all behind the pay wall and I can't see the specifics. It could easily be undocumented/unsourced information, but I like to use those as clues towards seeking the truth. There's always the possibility of doing a free trial there and taking a look, or finding someone with a subscription who might be willing to look for you.

I did find more about his wife on Ancestry, so they show parents for her (not that this information helps on his profile, but it might take you a little further with her family).

I've also seen some speculations that he passed away in 1841 in Floyd, Kentucky. But in looking at these, it does appear that is a different person - most likely born 1785 - so you might need to be prepared to separate these two if they overlap at some point.

I'd recommend starting with the children that you don't currently have, and trying to determine how they aligned them. It may be possible one of the speculated children will provide clues that will open up things. Perhaps a death record that proves some relationship. Or it's possible he left a will, but that will take some hunting. He appears to have been a farmer if the 1850/1860 records are accurate, so I'd hunt for land records to find out if he owned the land, who he bought from, who did he sell to, etc. That might prove where he sold to his children, which would provide further details.
