Who were the parents of Scott-42220 My great grandfather George Thomson Scott?

My grandmother Thelma Souter Scott was born in London and her parents were listed as George Thomson Scott and Mary Helen Rankin. She said her grandfather was Alexander William Scott known as Willie, born in Lossiemouth Morayshire Scotland. Relatives in the UK have disputed this saying Georges father was in fact George Thompson Scott. Can anyone in the Scotland clan clear this up for me please. I dont know how a fisherman in Scotland went to London as a carpenter either.

Your George Scott and Mary Helen were married in Scotland in 1905.  Don't know if the "modern" certificates give names of parents, but if you have credits on SP, you could take a look.

Here's another thing to check out -- an Alexander Scott married a Jane Sutter in 1854.  If these are George Thompson's parents, he is likely one of their later children seeing he was born 26 years after the marriage.  You'd also need to see the record to determine if the last name for Jane is Sutter, or Souter.  (It could be the correct person, even if spelt Sutter, because to some ears they would sound the same.)  Jane and Jean (and Jeannie, Jenet, Janet, Jeanette, etc) are (all) interchangeable.

An argument for George's parents being Alexander and Jane Souter/Sutter is - I can find no marriage of a George Thompson Scott to anyone Souter/Sutter.  Just this Alexander to Jane. 

Another argument for Alexander and Jane is that your George named his daughter Souter.
