Do we have a Cold War Veterans Page that I just can not find?

If not I suggest that we build one.  Many veterans which I am sure we have on wikitree are Cold War Veterans to include myself.

I noted an early one that seemed to be Air Force Specific. I respectfully see why it would close.

Cold War Veterans include all branches, and now is also recognizing the Merchant Marines as they were called.

If we do not have such a page and an honor to those veterans including myself then I will be happy to begin a One Space Page to that order and have it under Military and War.

It is great to honor those because of WAR, and special categories, branches. Some were nothing more than clearks and cooks so received no special ribbons, etc. However they were instrumental to us that did because of their support.

I'm also a Cold War Era Veteran and, I'm not stating that it isn't a good idea, but the Cold War isn't an actual "Declared War". It just a name/label that describes the tensions between certain Communist Countries and certain Democratic Countries between a specific time frame.

In my opinion, the idea of what your referring to isn't a bad one, but would be a challenging one indeed.

Brian thank you for your reply.
If nothing else maybe it can be sticker added to their profile. "COLD WAR VETERAN"
I am a Cold War/Vietnam Era veteran. I was a Navigator-Bombardier on a B-52 doing Chrome Dome and I agree a Cold War Veteran page would be useful. I also received a Certificate from the SecDef and was awarded a medal for Combat Readiness (Being on a Combat Crew for 24 months).

Hey Ronald, I am thankful for you joining in on that.  I was on a plane headed for jungle school training in Panama, we landed in San Diego, and were then told what was going on. I was canceled for the same school, when Panama went down.  But in some great pre-planning, they did send me to 29 Palms during the summer for playing in the sand (and heat) training ...

I'm a Cold War Veteran and think this is a great idea. Why has it not yet been implemented?

Several years back, I was awarded a Certificate of Recognition by U.S. Secretary of Defense "In recognition of your (my) service during the period of the Cold War (2 September 1945 - 26 December 1991)..."

The Cold War was inclusive of the Korean War, Vietnam War, the Laotian Civil War, Bay of Pigs Invasion, Korean DMZ Conflict, U.S. Invasion of Grenada. Many Cold War veterans served in more than one of those conflicts, either in combat or support. There should be a sticker-and/or-grouping page for all of us that served in the Cold War.

One consideration to bear in mind is that the Cold War was to a considerable extent carried on by civilians and I suspect that a fair amount of what went on remains classified.  My own view is that the Cold War was a war, but I am not sure that there is widespread consensus even on that.

I agree with you, and I think that creating a page is a great idea. It's part of the history, and it has to be recognized. Now I'm working on a uni paper about it, and this site helped me with some information, and it's good that I found it. I also found this page https://edubirdie.com/examples/cold-war/, which provides different samples on that topic, and the information there is beneficial. I had some trouble with the writing process, but after reading a few samples, I can see my future writing more clearly and have some fresh writing ideas.

I am also a Cold War Veteran, went from active duty into reserve duty. On going into the reserves, my civilian occupation became a California Peace Officer. My civilian occupation assisted my USMCR status, and visa versa. Down side was when members of the Marines went active duty for world events, I was turned down, being told my civilian status as a Peace Officer (Deputy Sheriff) was the priority. All my Marine Corps time was during the "Cold War". Just before the first gulf war, a drunk driver took me out one night, as I lay in hospital bed, my USMCR was activated as was most every other military reserve units. I feel a Cold War Veteran status should be ... as well as Marine Corps being separated from the Army (the Marine in me has ongoing issues with it, and I know it is a very long ongoing Wikitree issues ... as said, Once A Marine, Always A Marine!)  Again just a few more of my two cents worth on both topics.

I agree that the Cold War was not a legally declared war.  I also agree that it is a term originally coined to describe the tensions between, the NATO countries and, mainly, the USSR, although the PRC was soon included.  Subsequently, I believe the term was generalized. It now describes not simply a historical period but a configuration of relationship between two or more countries that is neither war nor peace, but different from each of those, and waged by other than traditional military means.  It has become a term of art in the study of international relations.

My point is that the Cold War--the original Cold War against the USSR--was real.  The Cold War was guided by particular strategies. There were casualties, battles were fought, and eventually the USSR lost and ceased to exist as a state.  When the history of the original Cold War eventually is written I believe that is what it will say.
