Who was my great grandfather Bertrand Cruickshank's father?

Hi,

I have been on a decades search for my great great grandfather.  My great great grandmother, Isabella Cruickshank [[Cruickshank-923|Isabella  Cruickshank (1852-1912)]] had my great grandfather Bertrand Cruickshank [[Cruickshank-922|Bertrand  Cruickshank (1877-1926)]] in or around Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada with a mystery man in 1877.  Stories about who the father might be have proven wrong based on DNA and anecdotal evidence.

The biggest lead I have is that my FamilyTreeDNA Big Y test now suggests that the father was a Chisholm from Ross-shire in Scotland.  I can't bridge the gap from the early 1700s known Chisholm connection to the father in 1877.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

That is Bertrand's mother.  William McDonald is her husband some years after having two children with two different men (one being Bertrand).

Bertrand was passed off as the son of his grandparents until a certain age, and then he went to live with his uncle William Cruickshank, who is then listed as his father on his marriage and death certificates (just to legitimize the surname).

DNA results show that my paternal line is Chisholm.
