Can I unmerge records?

Hello, I'm failry new to this and I've just become profile manager for Henrietta (Forest) Barker

The record was merged last year with Henrietta (Forsbury) Barker.

I have been researching Henrietta Fosbery for several years now and it seems clear to me that the merge was incorrect - I have seen no suggestion that Forest was ever her name, or that it was a mistranscrption. It seems the records have been merged based on the names of two children (Emma and Fanny), common names and the birth dates are not the same.

So can I unmerge the two records? I don't want to delete either of them as separately, they are probably correct.

Hi Sue. Welcome to G2G! Unfortunately, profiles cannot be unmerged. The only thing to do is to create a new profile for one of the people involved, and write a biography for it with the relevant information. Then you need to edit the old biography removing the erroneous information. Following that, all the relationships needs to be corrected.

It is always a good idea to add a Research Notes section to indicate the Wikitree ID and name of the other profile that it was confused with, indicating why they are not the same. That might help future merges from being done.
