Elusive Taylor’s

Working on my husband Taylor family. Grandfather Leonard Taylor b. Feb 13 1850 Rome NY, d. Jan 8 1928 in Ft Myers. Mother was Lois Palmer b abt 1819 in Oneida area NY, d. abt. 1900 in New York. That’s all I have on her. Several census with her and Leonard but nothing before or after. My husbands uncle had listed Leonard father name as Charles Taylor from England on Leonard’s death certificate but pretty sure that must be incorrect. Hired Ancestry.com geneologist but they found nothing more really helpful than what I gave them. Found one census, 1855 Constantia NY with a Lois, John and Leonard Taylor and with another juvenile. An 1870 and 1875 census Rome Ward 4, all with him and mother alone. She was in an Alm House in Sac, Oneida in August of 1899 and have a death record from there from there showing she died 16 days later. I’m stumped and so were professionals. I decided not to pay more than the several thousands we already had if they weren’t able to come up with more information or at least a few hints. Anyone out there with anything?? I’m afraid the whole family is like that. Husband has one female cousin who knows less than I know. Even his grandmother Margaret Brown, b.1847 d 1945, in Kissimmee where I am from is unknown to us. He had family in my town where he moved to work and only an hour away from where he was raised. Never met them or even knew about them obviously. Help!

There is a fair amount of information here. Would you be inclined to enter some of it at familysearch.org ? It's a free site with extensive information.
I’m not sure where to add it, unless you are speaking of opening a person on a tree and attaching documents to Leonard. I have no idea where to ask for help. I just found this! Been researching my own family from way back before internet when I had to get dressed and actually physically go look for info at libraries, Mormon Church records and anywhere else I could go, write or call. More access online, can’t even compare but it is sometimes more complicated for me to figure out how to use each program. My own tree on this one is all messed up and I can’t figure how to add or delete something/someone.

Could this possibly be Leonard and Lois with the father in 1850?

Leonard Taylor, United States Census, 1850, the same year that he was born. His father John J K Taylor 49 and mother, I assume is 36. All three were born in New York.

20 years later in the 1870 US Census, Rome, Oneida, NY, Lois is 55 and Leonard was 20. Leonard's father would have been 69 years only by then if he was still living.

I too feel this HAS to be them. I just have no idea who that person is or where he came from. Is he the father, is he a relative of the father? Was this an illegitimate birth and this person is helping her? This man is the only male I see in any census or other records associated with Leonard until his own children. No birth certificate to be found, no siblings (which I think is very unusual for the time period) and she never remarried or married, which ever it was. A difficult case I guess since not even the ancestry page pro we hired found anything.
