Biobuilders Dec 2020 - Letter ‘D’ surnames

1.1k views

This month’s Bio Builders Challenge theme is letter ‘D’ surnames.

Thank you for your support.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section:

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • names of children, if any
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written (full) sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • Is the profile '''Genealogically Defined?'''
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • Some list siblings. (I think this takes up real estate.)
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (e.g. disputed persons information, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (you need to own the copyright unless they are in the public domain).
  • Categories.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated.
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page.

Use "comments" below to ask questions.

NOTE: Biography Builders will not show on the tracker. Please add a list to your answer.

Hi Elsie

Can you convert your comment to an answer, please so it will count. If you click the numbered list image  it makes it easier for the leaders to track work done

Thanks, Janet

A fellow Bio Builder
I not sure if I'm doing this right, but I'm replying to your comment Janet.

Thanks for your help, I'm a little lost, but I will still do the Bio for "Day".

Have a nice day.

Elsie.
Hi Bob

Can the spreadsheet of scores please be updated so we all know how we have done this year. It has not been done since June.

Many Thanks

Puritan Great Migration Project has some D surnames in the Needs Biography Maintenance Category.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Puritan_Great_Migration_Project_Needs_Biography

Some of these probably already have good sources and just need a bio written or completed. Access to Amercanancestors.org is probably helpful, but if you have trouble finding something a comment on the profile will usually get a prompt response.

Does it still count if you search and don't find all the data? The first once on my list was born in Kentucky about 1818. Kentucky did not keep state records of births until after that.

As I don't know if my Bio for the letter D are being recorded.

I will add them here and someone please let me know the right way, I'm a newcomer and not sure if I'm doing this right.

Joseph Day (1870 - 1954) - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Day-15228

John Archibald Day (1891 - 1966) - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Day-15301

Percy Raymond Day (1899 - 1977)  -  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Day-15304

Joesph Edward Day (1902 - ?)  - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Day-15305

Kathleen Esme (Day) Proctor 91904. - 2004)  - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Day-15306

Marjorie Elsie Day ( 1908 - 1994) - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Day-15307

Ronald Frederick Day (1914 - 2004) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Day-15308

Elsie (Olson) Hagley - 6823

I think you are supposed to put your list as an answer not just a comment.
If I correct defunct links, clarify sources and edited / formatted a bio that I had previously done, does it count for the challenge?
Yes it does.
YEAH!!!! I have completed several then.

Hi Richard,

Don't forget to add a numbered list here so the leaders can track the work done. to create a number list click the image above your post (when Open) add clickable links by using the sidewise 8 opens a new window into which you add the URL and Names of the profiles you worked on.

Have fun

Joining the Biobuilders for the first time and plan to contribute all that I can. I'll be working on a few Deslers and at least a couple of other D surnames.

I know I have some "D" surnames. I will be checking in on the Dunhams to see if I can personalize them and make sure the data is accurate along with the sources!

Hi,

I just added small story in photos for my Doerrer family here him and wife listed as story. This was given to me by cousin but in 1930’s they had family reunions and gave out lines and stories to people when reunion ended they had extra handouts so these were past down lines. This cousin made more copies and sent packets to me to hand out to others. This was neat of family and we have small story about them now. I not good at written words so I will stick to researching.

For birthdates - say I haven't got a baptism but I have an age at death in a Death Notice or Probate..does that count?
by Pam Cormac Smith G2G6 Mach 7 (70.0k points)
If you are reasonably certain the age at death is accurate, cite the “DOB” as ‘Based on age at death, see obituary or gravestone, or whatever the source is’. Link the source for age at death.
Thank you Bob, that's great news..then I have a few D's I can work on. Crazy that I didn't have a single D baptism.
