WikiTree profile: Mark Royston

The only people who will show up in Wikitree as DNA connections to you are other members, related to you,  who have also loaded information on DNA tests they have taken.  Autosomal DNA only propagates a few generations back, so distant cousins probably won't show up.

It may be that you just don't have any DNA relatives here.  Most of my ancestors here on Wikitree don't show anyone other than me who is connected to them by DNA.

How long ago did you add your DNA results? It can take 24-48 hours for it to take full effect.

All,

If you look at the profiles Mark entered, he entered them all himself and they are not attached to any branch of the main tree. He is the profile manager of all.   Perhaps these people are duplicated here on WikiTree, and once merged, the DNA will flow down to everyone he has entered.  It's not how long ago since Mark has not connected to anyone yet who has placed their DNA info on WikiTree.

No one today has connected to Marks profiles, because Mark has not connected to them so the DNA can follow along the branches he has created.   He has created an Island without a taxiway.

Mark,

It appears you added all these profiles, but have not linked yourself thru these lines to a main branch of WikiTree.  Unless you had your family test and own their profiles here on WikiTree and share their DNA, those would be the only tests you would see.

What you must do is connect your tree to a branch here on WikiTree.  All us test takers are available to you if you continue to connect to us here.  Look if you may have duplicated a profile page of one of your ancestors.  Or perhaps going up one more level, will connect you with one of our branches.

Once you connect to a branch, that line you have connected will, or should have some DNA test takers that are sharing.  Only until you connect your profiles with ours, will you see matches..  Right now you are on an island with your tree by yourself.  Come play with us!

Mark,

WikiTree will show you "connections" but WikiTree does not do matches. Connections are just people on WikiTree that have entered their DNA test information and are related to you. The company you tested with may supply you with matches if any of your relatives have also tested there..

To find more matches you can to upload your test results to another site, like GEDmatch.com and see if you matches are found there.

I suggest you take a look at WikiTree's Help topics "How to Get Started with DNA"  and "DNA Matches" for more information on the subject.

Mark,

There are 17 profiles on Wikitree that you have a match with.  The easy way to find them is to use One-To-Many DNA Comparison Beta under the Tier 1 options.  Tier one is not free, but it does allow you to do some nice things with your DNA matches.  Unfortunately none of the matches are close to you, the largest is a 28 cM match.

Based on my experience you can spend a huge amount of time trying to find connection at that level and get nothing.  I suggest you consider finding some 2 or 3rd cousins and get them to take a DNA test, I have offered to pay for some  of mine and often they are willing to do it themselves.  This will get you started on should allow you to work out some connections.

I took a quick look at your family file - the lack of sources makes it difficult to evaluate the profiles.  It might be worth your time to carefully review your profiles and make sure that you have not missed something - any chance that a child actually the child of a second marriage and the wrong mother was selected?  If you have not reviewed the material recently you may find some new information  that will help.

Mark, You and I have a dna match, but our Royston ancestors in wiki have yet to be completed & connected.   Once family members are added (or connected to those already on wiki),  you should see some cousins listed.  Welcome and great to see you here!
