How to find a marriage certificate for a deceased relative

Hi, this is Ann Taylor again. I was wondering if someone could help me figure which of the thousands of marriage licenses under the name John McNamara could be my dad ( if he did get married bc I don't know), when I click on an article to look at it it doesn't give the birth date of the person so I have no clue. I am trying to find all the information I can about him ( he passed away November 27, 1989) bc I never knew him and I am trying to find out about him but all I can find on him is a death notice and he is in a few census with his parents and siblings but that is all I can find.

Depends on where you are. In English census data from 1851 onward the data included place of birth and an approximate DOB. That will usually narrow it down to less than three candidates, at which time you can select the one with the right parents.

Who was he supposed to have married, and did he have any other children? If it is not to intrusive.

I don't have an of that information unfortunately, I never knew him and I did a DNA test earlier this year and found a close relative who was able to give me some information but not much( i.e. his name, date of birth, when he passed). After almost 50 years I still don't have much information about him.
