Can the {{Unsourced}} label be removed if Sources are not specific enough like the two listed in this profile?

These two sources are listed:

  • Kentucky Marriages 1802-1850
  • Kentucky Land Grants
But the profile has the {{Unsourced}} tag.  I didn't want to remove the tag because these sources are too general for someone to find the information.  Should I have removed the {{Unsourced}} tag?

Hi, Barbara,

Do not REMOVE anything that you are unsure of.  The sources on the profile are not legitimate.

As a general rule, no one should remove anything from a profile unless there is a valid reason, i.e., a source with a link, typo, etc. Please completely understand what change needs to be made and why with the explanation left.

If you don't understand a suggestion on a profile during the challenge you are doing a good job with, leave the profile alone; the "not corrected" and comment you don't understand is not necessary or helpful, and that is not meant to sound harsh in any way.

Work on only what you understand, and I will take a look at some of your work and let you know if there are any issues—[I am a Project Coordinator lead for the Data Doctors Project].

So far, so good!

Another suggestion: work only in locations you are familiar with and in timeframes you are comfortable with.  In other words, if you live in the US and are working in the states, leave Norweigan profiles to those who work with that region and language.  There are differences you may not be aware of.

Stay safe, and please feel free to email me with any questions as you work through these.

Thank you, again, Sheryl, for answering my question.

I am glad you will be checking my work.  There was one profile where I left a comment and didn't correct because it had so much going on in the references that I couldn't decipher the source of the error or how to fix it.  I can't remember now which one it was.  The others have been fairly straightforward.

I didn't understand your comment that it isn't helpful or necessary to use the "not corrected" and then comment about not understanding. Were you referring to that one profile that I didn't correct?
Check the page/video I left in reply to the Challenge comment you made.  Yes, the "not corrected" comment left isn't necessary on the profile you didn't understand.  Better to leave the profile alone and make no entry on the status page.

You didn't correct the profile based in Norway, and best to work in areas you are familiar with and don't have possible language barriers.

Please email me with any questions.

Stay safe.
Thank you. I will be sure to just leave any that I don't understand.

To add to Sheryl's answer, which is correct....

Only remove the unsourced tag when the profile has sources.  As Sheryl said the sources on the profile are not sufficient.
