So sad...he was a rock hero of mine (yes, even though he did behave badly at times.)

Did you know that he played guitar on Michael Jackson's "Beat It"?

He is Van Halen-3 and I have requested that  his profile be opened.

It has been opened :)

Just look at that 80's mullet!!!

Not a mullet. That was referred to as "big hair". A mullet is short till you get to the ears and then long behind.

A great Dutchman that passed away.
It would be great to clean up his tree and I hope our Dutch friends can help. His paternal ancestry seems to go up to almost 1500 but there are problematic dates and hardly a source on pre-1800 profiles.

Also, aside from the capital V in "Van" (which goes against Dutch conventions), is it normal to use the married name as Current Last Name for Dutch women?

And @Steven I agree - definitely not a mullet.

1. Yes, I walked quickly through it, but there are some issues.

2. Married name. I am not using that a lot. There was a period that the married name would change, but in general it is better not to use it. In the 20th century we would use 'marriedname-maidenname' as a current last name. I've not seen that on Dutch Wikitree profiles though, and I would not be in favour of it.

The interesting discussion is with the Dutch that moved to the USA where the Capital is used, while in their home country it would not be used. In the case of Van Halen, there have been many discussions which is correct. MusicBrainz uses the Capital V, see https://musicbrainz.org/artist/2a66baa5-9832-4fbc-8365-c9f607a89e47

wife and son are notables as well and should not be private.

If they are alive -the son has been on Twitter-, they should be private.

Michel, following WikiTree's conventions, if the person was born in the Netherlands then the name at birth should use an undercase v. Capital V can be used in the Current Last Name if the person moved to an area where the spelling was Van. I mean... If Eddie was American, then American conventions should apply for the CLN. (Dutch Wikipedia does not see it that way: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_van_Halen)

Really sad news. He was a huge musical hero of mine as well. He's the reason I picked up a guitar and learned to play. His profound impact on rock music can't be over stated.

I was in Guam in the Navy when I first read about him and the debut album in Rolling Stone. All US goods got to Guam months after release on the mainland, so I kept bugging the guy at the base exchange, "Is that album by that new band Van Halen here yet?" I got it the first day it came in and never regretted it. 1978. Long live Eddie Van Halen!

Sad news for sure. Another Iconic musician gone way too early. Eddie was a big influence on many of us who play guitar, and yes, I too tried to imitate some of his playing style. RIP Eddie, this loss have hit millions of us around the world very hard.
