My great-aunt, Ingeborg Gunhild Bergström, born 1897 in Hammarö, Sweden moved to USA 1913. Her parents were Gustav Adolf (b. 1866) & Anna Josefina (b.1872) Bergström (born Johansson).

One of her sisters was my grandmother, Valborg Charlotta Bergström.

Ingeborg travelled alone to USA 1913 with RMS Mauretania and arrived at New York October 17 1913. According to the passenger list she was heading for Chicago, 312 Whiting Street to meetup with a friend, possibly “O Andersson”.

According to unconfirmed information she married “Art” and become mother or more likely stepmother to Joanne or Joane. Based on an old photo we know that Joanne had two sons, Mitchell and Scott, both probably born in the 50’s.

Later Ingeborg remarried and had according to the information we have two sons of her own. We have sadly no information regarding the name of her 2nd husband or her own sons. Both Ingeborg and Joanne visited Sweden in the mid 60’s.

Thanks Wayne, but if that birth date (1894) is correct it doesn't comply with my grandaunt. My grandaunt was born 1897. Did you found any additional birth information related to this Gunhild Ingeborg. Birthplace should be Hammarö, Sweden.

This doesn't agree with the sequence of events as you have it, but I think you sould take a look at Glen Nelson, born 8 July 1920 to Swan Nelson and Engberg Nelson in Chicago. -- "Illinois, Cook County, Birth Certificates, 1871-1940," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N77L-RB5 : 18 May 2016), Glen Nelson, 08 Jul 1920; Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States, reference/certificate 24638, Cook County Clerk, Cook County Courthouse, Chicago; FHL microfilm 1,309,406.

In the US census 1930 Glen's mother is Ingborg G Nelson, and there is a brother Arthur E, born in 1917. -- "United States Census, 1930," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XS5H-JB2 : accessed 25 September 2020), Glen A Nelson in household of Swan Nelson, Chicago (Districts 1501-1750), Cook, Illinois, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) ED 1680, sheet 2B, line 83, family 62, NARA microfilm publication T626 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 2002), roll 487; FHL microfilm 2,340,222.

Glen Nelson died 29 April 1994, there his mother is recorded with her maiden name, Ingeborg Bergstrom. -- "Illinois, Cook County Deaths, 1878-1994," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QV92-NYXN : 17 March 2020), Glen A Nelson, 29 Apr 1994; citing Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States, source reference , record number , Cook County Courthouse, Chicago; FHL microfilm .

By following up Arthur the family can be found in the 1920 census. -- "United States Census, 1920," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MJQJ-WNZ : accessed 25 September 2020), Arthur A Nelson in household of Swan Nelson, Chicago Ward 24, Cook (Chicago), Illinois, United States; citing ED 1378, sheet 14A, line 25, family 235, NARA microfilm publication T625 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 1992), roll 336; FHL microfilm 1,820,336.

And in 1940 Ingaborg Nelson is divorced, living with her two sons. Arthur is married and has a baby son. -- "United States Census, 1940," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K4MR-BG5 : 27 January 2020), Ingaborg Nelson in household of Arthur Nelson, Ward 46, Chicago, Chicago City, Cook, Illinois, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) 103-2972, sheet 12A, line 24, family 271, Sixteenth Census of the United States, 1940, NARA digital publication T627. Records of the Bureau of the Census, 1790 - 2007, RG 29. Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 2012, roll 1014.

The variation in spellings, the use of married names for women, birth years being one year off in the census - because they're calculated from the age people report - this is very typical for American records. Also the use of mother's maiden name in birth and death certificates; that is quite reliable.

It does leave the question of Joanne and her kids. Could Arthur have remarried?

Hi Eva, and many thanks. According to my mother Ingeborg first married and had 2 or 3 children. Then divorced and remarried with "Art", most likely Arthur. Arthur had a daughter from a previous marriage.

I earlier misunderstood my mothers story and put "Art" prior "Swan", that's not the case.

Ingeborg and Swan must married around 1914, got at least 2 children. Later Ingeborg remarried with "Art", probably around 1940. Arthur was a widower with at least one daughter. Ingeborg & Arthur had no children together.
Yes, the records show two sons with Swan, and Ingeborg as divorced at the time of the census 1940.

It's more difficult to find records for her second marriage - it's getting too close in time for being published.

I think your best bet is to make some person profiles and then just wait. There are a lot more people who Google search for names of relatives than there are people reading G2G. It may take years (or forever), but I sometimes do get contacted about stuff I put up long ago.
