How do we correct errors in place names?

The Place Name tables require clean-up. I frequently find errors in place names, but haven't found an option for either reporting or correcting the error.

The place name suggestions are from Family Search and are just there as a convenience.  There is no requirement to use them.

Place names was initially created from Family Search.  Ales has been revising it, based on people's input from each country.  Pre-USA names with Colony have been added, but there is plenty of work to be done still.  

You can revise your post to include the Location names that you have found that are a problem, including what it has vs what it should have.   Add Ales as a tag.

Entry of location names is still used from Family Search. And it will stay so for a long time.

The location database that I prepare is used on WikiTree+ for suggestion calculations. It might eventually replace FamilySearch but that is ain a distant future (years).

There is an ACCURATE place to find US and Canada historical place names here in this spreadsheet:

In WikiTree select "Hide place name suggestions" shown under the death place box.  Then as you type in your own names using the spreadsheet, they will be remembered and become your dropdown list.  It's a dream having this.

If anyone needs accurate place names for Ontario, Canada, the Ontario Locator website is a good resource for finding the right Township and County. It has most place names, and many that no longer exist, which is great for the time periods we are working in.

Also for Ontario: 

• Use Upper Canada for December 26, 1791 to February 10, 1841
• Use Canada West for 1841 to 1867
• Use Ontario for any time after July 1, 1867
