Probably all of us whose ancestors come from Europe, North America, and the northern half of Asia have ancestors who hunted mammoths, but that was more than 10,000 years ago.
The range of the woolly mammoth, based on the fossil record, includes virtually all of Europe, northern Russia, Siberia, and parts of northern North America. So, Grandpa is quite likely correct.

Thanks for the laugh John (Jack?)! laugh

You're welcome, Maria, and, by the way, my father nicknamed me "Jack" and when computers became common I found that bank machines would give me money if I told them I was ''John" of which name I am more likely to stand at attention if I hear it called out.   Jack
