What happened to create duplicate profiles?

Question

Help, please!  I was creating a spouse and somehow ended up with two of him.  I'd entered the data and saved the changes.  Turned around to take a sip of lemonade, turned back and it showed the same "save" page so I did it again.  Now I have two profiles for the same gent under consequtive numbers, Cameron-2788 and Cameron-2789.  I've stopped working on the couple (sources, etc) pending y'all's help.

I want to know what happened so I'm putting this under the "tech" catagory but I also want to know what is the best way to solve this.  Should I keep the duplicate to use on a different Cameron or merge the two?  Which is the preferred method?

Hello Elizabeth this has happened to me as well its easy to do but also easy to fix, you merge the 2 profiles which wont be a problem  as you are the profile manger of both Terry

Elizabeth, either approach is acceptable. As Terry said, a merge is easy to do since you are the profile manager of both profiles. Merging creates a "redirect," so that there is an extra nanosecond in searching for the end-result profile, so re-using the duplicate profile for someone with the same surname might be a better choice for the efficiency of searches. The issue of redirects is only a problem when there have been multiple merges of a profile, so hey, pick a option and go with it!
