Will that's an incredible story. It's a priviledge to read about his life. Thank you.

laugh THAT is a mind-boggling Saga

laugh Sorry, I got so wound up in the biography I did not look at your sourcing but I think you have done at least an adequate job of it -- the sources look like they are proper ones (respectable ones) ... more to the point do YOU see any data conflicts of dates / places and where would you go to resolve them?

Will, thanks for adding this story to WikiTree. It makes we civilian pilots realize how easy we have it. A flying instructor years ago told me, "flying is weeks or even years of calm followed by 90 seconds of sheer terror." In this case it was more than 90 seconds.
Thank you for posting Charlie's profile and story.
The sources look really great on his profile. There's always WIkiTreers who want to pitch in and help others out. Hope that you can learn from the different methods of sourcing and chose what works for you.

I'm going to resist reading the bio until I finish making suggestions for the sources lest I fall into the same trap as those who have commented above.

In the beginning try to keep it simple.

You can enclose a url within brackets, and 1 space and then a short description. There's picture of a link just above the biography box (to the left of the large "H" Having your cursor where you want the source, pushing the link button results in the following which is enclosed in brackets, "[]":

http://www.example.com link title

: for example:

Author, Name [url description] other optional information

I took the liberty to change a link on his profile.

It is customary to add "* " before the source.

The first line in the sources section of the profiles should always be the references tag. For example,

"<references />" should always immediately follow (the next line after) "== Sources =="

I also made that correction.

This is a fascinating history of a war hero.  It would help to add birth and death records, and also available WWII Draft records.

I didn't want to touch this profile, but I did take the liberty to add his father's birth and death records along with a Research Notes section listing where you can find many more records for his father, and for Charlie, Jr. also [in a different search].  Charles Sr. Profile

From the proven birth record I found Charles, Sr. profile on FamilySearch, and linked it in the notes - there are 22 sources for him and the entire family is listed as well.

You can use the WikiTreeX application to add sources and facts to the biography [father and records for Charlie and the rest of the family], then add the sources from FamilySearch you find in their profiles or the FamilySearch records search through RootsSearch on the right side of the WT profile. WikiTreeX also helps you to add profiles to WT as a parent, child, or sibling of the profile ID you enter.  Great time saver!

For more info on WikiTreeX see:  WikiTree X Help

For RootsSearch: RootsSearch Help

You've done a beautiful job of writing a hero's story; I hope this information can help you with the sources - I could have spent hours researching!

Enjoy your search and recording.  Charles, Sr. sources I added are in inline citation format so you can get an idea of how it's done.  There are Help pages for that as well.

The online source for West Virginia records [they are also cited on FamilySearch, but the actual images are on the WV Archive site.  I added some in the Research Notes.] can be found here: WV Birth, Marriage and Death Records Archive

There was a fire in the archives in Charleston, WV in 1973 that destroyed a lot of the paper records.  They were not scanned until 1993, so if you can't find something in the archive site, it probably was destroyed.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Stay safe!

Personally, I would separate his birth and early life information using the Headings.

Add a WW II Badge, and one for his Awards

I would figure out how to use the inline references and add them to the story, would make it easier to figure out which source is related to what in the story.

However, I wish we all had the capability to write stuff like this for our profiles. Having videos of a person's service really helps, and pictures of people also help.

Good job.

Keep digging.

Thanks for the tips and improvements, there are lots of photos of Charlie Brown and his crew and of Franz Stigler on the internet but i have no idea how to add them to a profile here and if they are copyrighted. see https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=photos+franz+stigler+war+ace&qpvt=photos+franz+stigler+war+ace&form=IGRE&first=1&cw=2539&ch=1239&scenario=ImageBasicHover
